Using your local law library

If you are like most of us, you are not a lawyer, nor do you work for a law firm. You probably need a little help with some of the legal issues that you face in trying to collect your judgment. I have found that many court houses have a law library. In my county the law library seems to be run by the local bar association. I have gone to the court house many times just to visit the law library. In my county there is almost never anyone in the library. Over the years there has not been a single instance where anyone has questioned me about what I was doing there. I just show up and do my research and then leave when I am through.

The law library gives me a vast supply of legal resources that have allowed me to get answers to many questions that have perplexed me in my attempts to enforce judgments. This is the 21st century, so it is not uncommon to find computers in your law library that give access to further legal resources. Internet access to Westlaw or Lexis Nexis and similar sources have been very helpful.

Just for the record, I assume that a common citizen like myself has a right to utilize the facilities and resources of the local law library. I can’t say for sure if this is true. I have never asked anyone. To be honest, when I go to the law library, I dress in a way that makes me fit in with any lawyers or paralegals that I might run into there. People must assume that I am a lawyer or work with one. Anyhow, I don’t ever have a problem gaining access to the library.

If you can’t find answers to the legal questions you have in pursuing the collection of your judgment, try visiting your own local law library. I am confident you will find answers there to just about anything you need to know.
